WHY: Children, Youth and Education Beginning in 1998, Opera Providence developed its educational and outreach program, OPERAtunity. These programs enrich children's educational opportunities through in-school and after-school opera and performing arts programming. A vital part of the mission and vision of Opera Providence, OPERAtunity brings its programs to a diverse school-based population, including Rhode Island’s core urban districts serving low-and moderate-income communities and students in suburban and rural settings. Programs include artist-in-residence and after school multi-session projects, outreach, in-school performances, main-stage professional performances, interactive assemblies and performances in cross collaboration with other non-profits. In the last nine years, the OPERAtunity education and outreach program has reached over 35,000 children, youth and adults throughout the state of Rhode Island. OPERAtunity programs are on the education roster for the Rhode Island
