THE CHARACTERS

Norina (soprano)—A beautiful young widow, in love with Ernesto.

Ernesto (tenor)—Don Pasquale’s nephew, in love with his fiancée Norina.

Doctor Malatesta (baritone)—Friend of the Pasquale family. A witty and resourceful fellow who will go to great lengths to pull off a practical joke.

Notaro (bass/baritone)—Doctor Malatesta’s cousin Carlotto. He disguises himself as a notary to officiate at Don Pasquale’s fake wedding.

Don Pasquale da Corneto (bass)—A wealthy, stubborn old bachelor.
