An opera in two acts, Benvenuto Cellini is the first of Hector Berlioz's three operas.  Benvenuto Cellini is a French opera written in the 1830s, it is so complex, richly detailed and prolifically imaginative that Berlioz's contemporaries often considered it unplayable.  It was performed at the Salzburg Festival and will be shown in HD with a running time of 164 minutes.

This opera is Rossini's last opera in the Italian language.  Commissioned to celebrate the coronation of French King Charles X in Rheims in 1825, the work has been critically acclaimed as one of Rossini's finest compositions. It is a demanding work, requiring 14 soloists.
